With a unique arena and innovative gameplay, this league introduces thrilling 3-on-3 competitions held in a state-of-the-art custom venue. Kicking off on January 7, 2025, fans can expect fast-paced matches and city-specific teams representing top PGA golfers. Tune in to ESPN and ESPN+ for an exciting season ahead!

Exciting New Golf League Launched in Palm Beach Gardens

Golf fans get ready for something extraordinary! In the sunny paradise of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy have teamed up to create the thrilling Tomorrow’s Golf League, or TGL for short. Founded just last August 2022, this innovative league is shaking up the traditional world of golf with a fresh approach that’s sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.

What Makes TGL So Unique?

Imagine stepping into a custom-built arena, known as the SoFi Center, where technology intertwines with your favorite sport. This spectacular venue spans roughly the size of a football field, measuring 97 yards by 50 yards. It’s truly a marvel that combines a state-of-the-art experience with the old-school charm of golf.

Gone are the days of just 18 holes; TGL promises a dynamic format that includes heart-pounding 3-on-3 competitions. Each match whizzes by, lasting only about two hours. Players compete in two exciting sessions. The first features a nine-hole alternate-shot format called triples, followed by thrilling singles games in the second session, where golfers face off head-to-head for six holes.

Interactive Technology at Its Best

One of the coolest aspects of TGL is the way players hit shots from real elements like grass tees, fairways, roughs, and even sand into a massive simulation screen. This screen is a gigantic 20 times larger than your typical golf simulator. The course even offers adjustable slopes on each hole, providing unique gameplay experiences that can vary from match to match.

Keeping the Competition Fierce

In TGL, teams earn points for each hole they conquer, scoring one point per hole. If teams are neck and neck when the dust settles, they’ll go into an overtime showdown, reminiscent of thrilling penalty shootouts in soccer. In this overtime period, players take closest-to-the-pin shots to determine the winner!

And, to keep the action moving, there’s a shot clock! That’s right: players must hit their shots within a strict limit of 40 seconds. If players need a moment to strategize, they also have four timeouts throughout the match, split between the two sessions. Plus, with a referee enforcing the rules and golfers mic’d up, fans get to enjoy the excitement both on and off the green.

City-Specific Teams Competing for Glory

TGL features six teams, each representing a different city, complete with four skilled PGA Tour golfers. Here’s how they shake out:

  • Atlanta Drive GC: Patrick Cantlay, Lucas Glover, Billy Horschel, Justin Thomas
  • Boston Common Golf: Keegan Bradley, Hideki Matsuyama, Rory McIlroy, Adam Scott
  • Jupiter Links Golf Club: Max Homa, Tom Kim, Kevin Kisner, Tiger Woods
  • Los Angeles Golf Club: Tommy Fleetwood, Collin Morikawa, Justin Rose, Sahith Theegala
  • New York Golf Club: Matt Fitzpatrick, Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele, Cameron Young
  • Bay Golf Club: Ludvig Åberg, Wyndham Clark, Shane Lowry, Min Woo Lee

What’s Next for TGL?

The inaugural season kicks off on January 7, 2025, and you can catch these electrifying matches airing on ESPN and ESPN+. TGL promises to shake up the golfing world, adding a splash of excitement, charm, and entertainment. Not only will the matches enhance the PGA Tour schedule, but they’ll also lead to high-stakes playoffs, culminating in an epic showdown for the SoFi Cup championship.

Stay tuned, golf lovers! The future of the sport is arriving, and it’s looking brighter and more interactive than ever before.
