April Break Bliss in Massachusetts for Local Schools

As the flowers bloom and the weather warms, it’s time for the students of Massachusetts to get excited about their upcoming April Break. Most public schools across the state will be taking a welcome break from classes, allowing families to enjoy some quality time together. Let’s take a closer look at what you can expect during this spring recess!

When is April Break?

Most schools will be observing a five-day spring recess starting from April 21 through April 25. But don’t forget, many schools will also close their doors in observance of Good Friday on April 18. For parents, this means a little extra planning if you have kids in school—you’ll want to make sure your calendars are aligned!

School Schedules Across Massachusetts

From Boston to Worcester, every district is joining in the vacation fun. Boston Public Schools, which includes 119 schools, will be off for the entire week of April 21 and will also close down for Good Friday. Meanwhile, Worcester Public Schools, with over 40 schools, will follow a similar schedule, making it a relaxing period for students and staff alike.

In Quincy, students will enjoy an extended break from April 18 to April 27, covering both Good Friday and the spring recess. And let’s not forget Brockton Public Schools, which will have an early release on Good Friday before they also enjoy their spring break from April 21-25.

The joyous news continues with Fall River’s 20 public schools observing a spring break from April 21-25 and getting a head start on the holiday by closing for Good Friday too. Over on the Cape, Barnstable Public Schools and the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District are on the same page, enjoying Good Friday off as well as their spring break.

Every district has its unique schedule. For example, Bourne Public Schools will be open on Good Friday but take a break from April 21-25. Milford Public Schools will be off on both Good Friday and for the spring vacation, ensuring that students get ample time to recharge their batteries.

Then there’s New Bedford Public Schools, where kids can also look forward to a relaxing break during the week of April 21 while having Good Friday off. Last but not least, Taunton Public Schools is set to enjoy the same vacation vibe from April 21-25 and observe Good Friday.

Explore the Great Outdoors!

For families looking to fill the break with some fun activities, the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation has planned an exciting week full of 68 free activities at 13 state parks! Expect guided hikes, animal tracking, and even craft-making sessions. Not to mention, parking will be free at parks hosting these activities!

They’re also offering special adaptive programming to ensure everyone can join in on the fun. And if you’re eager to give back, you can take part in Park Serve Day on Saturday, April 26, where volunteers can help clean coastlines and clear trails at 40 state parks.

Take Advantage of the Low Crowds

So, what’s the scoop with neighboring Rhode Island? Their spring vacation runs from April 14-18, which means Massachusetts attractions might just be a little less crowded during our April break. Families could find this a fantastic opportunity to enjoy outings without the hustle and bustle of big crowds!

With so much planned and the promise of good weather ahead, April break is shaping up to be a wonderful time for all students across Massachusetts. Remember to plan those family activities and enjoy all the fun that the break has to offer!
