News Summary

Four individuals have been convicted for running a sex trafficking ring in Boston, shocking the community. The case highlights ongoing efforts against human trafficking in Massachusetts. As the ringleader faces multiple charges, the verdict sends a strong message about protecting vulnerable populations against exploitation.

Boston Sees Justice Served in Bust of Sex Trafficking Ring

In a groundbreaking decision, four individuals have been found guilty of running a disturbing sex trafficking ring in the Boston area, leaving many residents shocked and outraged. The Massachusetts Attorney General’s office has brought light to this harrowing case, reminding us all of the ongoing fight against human trafficking and the importance of safeguarding human dignity.

A Shocking Discovery

After a tense five-week trial in Suffolk Superior Court, the evidence presented was enough to paint a grim picture of what was happening in the community. The convicted individuals, Cristina Lasso, 52, from Saugus; Jose Deblas, 38, from Lynn; Marlon Nagano, 43, from East Boston; and Jorge Lasso, 60, from Chelsea, were accused of engaging in the trafficking of women from Central and South America, exploiting them for financial gain.

The Operation Exposed

Operating four brothels across East Boston, Chelsea, and Lynn, the defendants carried out their illicit activities from October 2018 until July 2019. Evidence gathered during the investigation illustrated a troubling reality, where individuals were paying for sexual services from trafficked women on a daily basis, all in the name of profit.

Key Players and Their Convictions

At the heart of this operation was Cristina Lasso, identified as the ringleader. She faced multiple convictions, including:

  • Four counts of trafficking persons for sexual servitude
  • Four counts of maintaining a house of prostitution
  • Four counts of keeping a house of ill fame
  • One count of money laundering

Jorge Lasso was also found guilty on charges of trafficking and money laundering, while Jose Deblas and Marlon Nagano faced similar charges, including maintaining prostitution houses and keeping a house of ill fame. The legal ramifications of their actions will soon come to a head, with the defendants returning to court for sentencing on May 2.

The Road to Justice

This case began in 2019 when nine individuals were initially charged. Thanks to the hard work from prosecutors within the AG’s Human Trafficking Division, strong evidence was collected, which included physical evidence, pole camera footage, documents, and digital records. These elements played a critical role in building a strong case against the defendants.

A Commitment to Human Dignity

This significant verdict exemplifies Massachusetts’ dedication to fighting human trafficking in all forms. The battle against such crimes is crucial in protecting vulnerable populations and ensuring justice for those affected. The case highlights the tireless efforts of local authorities and dedicated prosecutors, who work day in and day out on behalf of those who are often silent victims.

The Bigger Picture

While the sentencing of these defendants approaches, the larger issue of human trafficking remains a pressing concern. Everyone is urged to stay informed and vigilant, contributing to efforts that promote awareness and lead to safer communities. As Boston moves forward, the fight against this horrific crime continues, sending a strong message that exploitation will not be tolerated.

As Boston reflects on this case, it becomes abundantly clear that the path to justice is often arduous but rewarding. The community stands united in the pledge to protect its most vulnerable members and create a future free from the shadows of human trafficking.
