Falmouth, MA – Community Mourns the Loss of Beloved Husband and Marine, Patrick Howard Coughlin

Falmouth is heartbroken as residents come together to celebrate the life of Patrick Howard Coughlin, a dedicated Marine and devoted family man, who passed away unexpectedly at the young age of 29 on April 25, 2025. His untimely departure has left a profound void not just in the hearts of his loved ones, but in the fabric of the community he cherished.

A Loving Family Man

Patrick is survived by his cherished wife, Melissa C. Coughlin, and their adorable toddler, Maeve E. Coughlin. Those who knew him well attest that his greatest pride was his family. The love he had for Melissa and Maeve was evident to everyone around him, and his loss has left an irreplaceable gap in their lives.

Born in Boston and raised in North Attleboro and Medway, Patrick was the beloved son of Bruce and Cherie Coughlin. He shared a close bond with his siblings, brother Matthew Coughlin and sister Abigail Dennehy, both residing in Hingham. Patrick cherished his role as “Uncle Pat” to four lovely nieces and nephews: Declan and Clara Dennehy, along with Grady and Rowan Coughlin. Family gatherings, filled with laughter and love, were a cornerstone of his life.

A Passion for the Sea

Patrick had a zest for life that was evident in his career and hobbies. His education journey wound through prestigious institutions like Fay School, Xaverian Brothers High School, and the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, where he focused his studies on Marine Transportation. This training cemented his lifelong passion for sailing, which saw him thrive as an instructor in Falmouth.

In addition to sailing, Patrick worked as a rugged cook at the Clam Shack, where his culinary skills established him as a local favorite. With a hearty laugh and a warm smile, he served not only delicious food but also joy to the visitors heading to this beloved spot.

A True Bostonian

An avid sports enthusiast, Patrick was also deeply devoted to his beloved Boston Bruins. Known for holding season tickets, he spent countless hours discussing the team’s strategies and management decisions with his friends and fellow fans. His passion for the sport was infectious, creating camaraderie among those sharing his love for the team.

A Legacy of Love and Faith

Friends remember Patrick as a man with a gentle spirit and a strong faith in God. Throughout his life, he maintained deep connections with those around him, always prioritizing his friendships. Tragically, he found comfort in knowing he is now united in heaven with a baby he and Melissa lost to miscarriage.

Final Farewell

As the community grieves the loss of this remarkable individual, arrangements have been made to honor Patrick’s life. Visiting hours are scheduled for Wednesday, April 30, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Pyne Keohane Funeral Home in Hingham. A funeral service will follow on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 11:00 AM at South Shore Baptist Church in Hingham, culminating in burial at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Boston.

In light of this tragedy, a GoFundMe has been set up by friends to provide ongoing support for Melissa and Maeve as they navigate this tough time. Patrick Howard Coughlin will be fondly remembered as a role model, a caring friend, and a loving husband and father, who left an indelible mark on everyone lucky enough to have known him.
