Join in on the celebration with live music and entertainment as the restaurant re-establishes itself in the community.
Get ready to rejoice, Shrewsbury! The iconic Ground Round Restaurant has officially reopened after nearly two decades. After closing its previous locations back in 2004, this beloved establishment has made a triumphant return, bringing a splash of nostalgia and delicious food to the community.
Over the weekend, the Ground Round kicked off its soft opening with a limited seating arrangement and the excitement was palpable. In fact, the restaurant quickly filled up and was reported to be completely booked during its initial days. Diners were treated to a selection from a limited menu featuring mouth-watering items like cheeseburgers, turkey wraps, and the ever-popular Chicken Florentine. People wasted no time in sharing their rave reviews on social media, and it seems the restaurant has hit the ground running with a warm welcome from its patrons.
For those who missed out on getting a table, there’s still hope! A grand opening is set for April 30, and it promises to be a real treat. The day will be filled with live music and entertainment such as live magic shows, perfect for family fun. The festivities will also feature the lovable canine mascot, known as “The Ground Hound,” adding an extra touch of charm to the celebration.
The Ground Round has a long history, having been originally founded in Massachusetts back in 1969. Many remember the unique experience of enjoying their dinner among peanut-covered floors and participating in quirky promotions like “pay-what-you-weigh.” The new owners, Joe and Nachi Shea, have taken it upon themselves to resurrect those fond memories. Joe mentioned how many locals expressed their nostalgia for the original concept and ambiance, and he knew he had to bring it back to life.
Though the original peanut shells might be replaced with fresh popcorn, the spirit of fun and casual dining remains front and center. The new venue will also be implementing a modern twist on the classic “pay what you weigh” promotion, allowing kids to eat for just a penny per pound with the purchase of an adult entrée on Tuesdays. What a fantastic way to treat the family!
The Sheas have not skimped on renovations either. The restaurant has undergone extensive upgrades, with improvements to both the dining area and kitchen designed to enhance the overall experience. With a dedicated staff of 30, many of whom have roots in the previous Ground Round location, the team is ready to serve up quality meals with a side of fantastic service.
It’s worth noting that the Ground Round chain faced its share of challenges in the past. Once boasting around 200 locations at its peak, a drastic decrease led to bankruptcy in 2004. Today, only five locations remain in the U.S., making this revival all the more special to Shrewsbury locals who have longed for its return.
As the new Ground Round gets set for its grand opening, excitement is building, with customers eager to take a seat and enjoy the delicious offerings. From burger aficionados to families looking for a night out, everyone is welcome to experience the magic that comes with this classic setting.
So come on down to 271 Grafton Street (Route 140), where memories are waiting to be made and great meals are just a visit away. Whether you’re stopping in for a cozy dinner or attending the grand opening bash, the Ground Round looks forward to welcoming you back home.
